"Opportunity - Always"

Since the invention of the telegraph, communication has increasingly become more and more possible among human beings, to the point that now we can almost instantly transmit information and images throughout the world.  One thinks of Daniel's end time prophecy, presently being fulfilled with breathtaking rapidity, "Knowledge shall be increased" (Daniel 12:4).

One challenging aspect of this exponential advance involves our exposure to the pain, difficulty, sadness, and tragedy that characterizes the world in its present state.  We know far more about the fallenness of the present creation than any other generation.  In most cases, we can do nothing about the sorrow with our hands and our means, which adds to our difficulty of knowing how people and other creatures hurt.  However, for born again believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, opportunity does exist for us to do something.  Always.

"The Lord is good to all, and His tender mercies are over all His works" (Psalm 145:9).
"As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men" (Galatians 6:10).
"Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing?  And one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father" (Matthew 10:29).
"I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men" (I Timothy 2:1).

If by faith we see God's tender mercies over all His works, and if we are called to do good to all, and if we can pray, we always have opportunity to act - with our hearts.  We can seek the heart of God, who can also act with His hand in response to our intercessions for the hurting.  In most cases, we will not know how He has answered our pleas.  We will only know that He has done so according to His merciful character, wisdom and purpose.  Indeed, whatever challenge we feel for the hurting proceeds from the "full of compassion" Lord whose administration and allowance of pain in the present does not preclude the sorrow He feels in seeing His creation suffer (Psalm 86:15).

We must not miss or neglect opportunities to help those whose suffer in pain and sorrow.  If we can help with our hands and our means, we do so, as led our Father's guidance and enabling.  No "if" exists, however, regarding the help of our hearts in seeking the help of His heart and hand.  Born again believers in Christ have access to the throne of grace, from which the Lord of grace beckons us to seek His provision of grace for the hurting.  We have been given much awareness in our times of the sufferings and sorrows that challenge God's creation and creatures.  We must act with our hands if possible, but this will be limited.  Thus, we act always with our hearts, gratefully availing ourselves of the privilege and responsibility of prayer in confidence that our Father desires to comfort, help, provide, and rescue with tender mercies far more than we can imagine, but of which we can be absolutely certain.

"Thou art good, and doest good."
(Psalm 119:68)

God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."                                                                               (II Timothy 1:7)

Orange Moon Thursday, January 30, 2025 "Fear and Opportunity"

The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe

"Fear and Opportunity"

Every thought or feeling of fear or insecurity provides born again believers in the Lord Jesus Christ with opportunity to trust God for His peace and assurance.

"What time I am afraid, I will trust in Thee" (Psalm 56:3).

"Afraid" can refer to any sense of jeopardy or uncertainty, regardless of the nature or measure.  Our Heavenly Father desires the tranquility of our hearts in all things.  "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee" (Isaiah26:3).   Tiny seeds of fear can and will sprout into tall forests of fear if we do not quickly and decisively confront the challenge of spiritual enemies who seek to thwart the peace of the Lord Jesus in our hearts.  "Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines" (Song of Solomon 2:15).

The Apostle Paul commanded that we "bring every thought captive to the obedience of Christ" (II Corinthians 10:5).  Notions of fear and insecurity must be countered by our quick and decisive determination to trust the Lord for His leadership, provision, and protection.  Indeed, rather than run away in fear, we heed the Psalmist to run into safe haven:  "The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous runneth into it and is safe" (Proverbs 18:10).

Believers live in such a strength and security in Christ that we can live "bold as a lion" (Proverbs 28:1).  We should.  We must!  A world steeped in fear awaits to see the peace of God in our countenance, demeanor, attitudes, words, and deeds.  The Lord Jesus is more than able to confront every challenge we will ever face, and has in fact already done so.  These things I have spoken unto you, that in Me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world" (John 16:33).  Through Him, we also can face our challenges and overcome.  "This is the victory that ovecometh the world, even our faith" (I John 5:4).

As we trust our Lord in our "What time I am afraid" challenges, such moments will become blessed experiences of "the peace of God, which passeth all understanding" (Philippians 4:7).  Moreover, peace experienced becomes peace expressed unto others.  Few opportunities present bear more potential for impacting our hearts and our spheres of influence for the glory of the Lord Jesus.

"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."                                                                       (II Timothy 1:7)

Orange Moon Wednesday, January 29, 2025 "A Miracle (of Love)"

The Special of the Day… From the Orange Moon Cafe

"A Miracle (of Love)"

"How long will ye love vanity (emptiness)?" (Psalm 4:2).

Left to itself, humanity loves that which bears no true substance, worth, or meaning.  If the Spirit of God were not present in the world to reveal the love of God through the Lord Jesus Christ, we would all completely devote our hearts to wisps and vapors of quickly passing winds.  "Thou lovest evil more than good" (Psalm 52:3).

Against the backdrop of this sad delusion, the first and greatest command shines as a light that initially condemns, and then redeems all who open their eyes to its rescue from vanity:

"Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength.  This is the first commandment" (Mark 12:30).

A miracle must happen in the human heart if we are to turn from emptiness unto that which fills our being with vibrant life.  In every born again believer in the Lord Jesus, such a miracle has occurred: "the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit which is given unto us" (Romans 5:5).

To the unbeliever who sees the love of God in Christ and realizes that such love does not exist in his own heart, the Word of God promises rescue from the void.  God Himself enters the spirits of all who trust the Lord Jesus as the Holy Spirit establishes our hearts as His eternal home.  He comes as Himself, that is, He comes as love - "God is love" (I John 4:8).  Love for us, love bestowed upon us, and regarding our current consideration, love "shed abroad" within us for the purpose of enabling our devotion to God and others.  Believers can love that which will not disappoint us, and that which makes any loss incurred by loving pale in comparison to the gain found therein.  "For whosoever will save his life shall lose it, and whosoever will lose his life for My sake shall find it" (Matthew 16:25).

"To live is Christ" declared the Apostle Paul (Philippians 1:21).  The first commandment reveals that this primarily means "to love is Christ," that is, to love God through Christ.  We cannot do so in and of ourselves.  Thankfully, our Heavenly Father never intended that we attempt such an impossibility.  "Without Me, ye can do nothing" (John 15:5).  He rather made us to serve as the temple of His unselfish character and disposition.  We love Him in response to His love for us, and by the presence of His Spirit in us.  "We love Him because He first loved us… God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him" (I John 4:19; 16).  Thereby, God delivers us from the vanity of loving emptiness unto the eternal substance of loving that - Him - which bears worth and meaning in this moment and forevermore.

To love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength?  Impossible, to the one who seeks to love by the delusion of his own devotion.  Inevitable, to the one who seeks to love by the devotion that resides within every trusting heart in Christ, namely, the love of God lavishly bestowed - "shed abroad" - therein.  We will not be perfect in this life regarding such a "walk in love" (Ephesians 5:2).  We can grow and be more consistent, however, as we avail ourselves of the love that dwells within us, and that motivates, guides, and empowers that which can only be viewed in terms of a miracle, a miracle of love, that delivers us from vanity unto glory…

"Walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given Himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savor."

(Ephesians 5:2)
